Depressants are taken by individuals who cannot sleep properly at night or any time of the day. Those who are suffering from sleeping disorder are the ones prescribed with sleeping pills as the main functions of this drug is to slow down the nervous system, and thus enable them to finally relax enough to sleep.

Aside from sleeping pills, anxiety is another reason why depressants are taken by some people. This drug can be snorted, injected, smoked and swallowed as they are in the forms of liquid, capsules and powder. The other names for this are goofballs, blue devils, downers, Ludes, yellow jackets and barbs.

A depressant user can easily be susceptible to addiction if they fail to control themselves, which is why abused is rampant. People with mental conditions or nervous breakdowns are given this drug to immediately calm them down, but not recommended as part of their daily medications.

Depressants are divided into three groups the tranquilizers, hypnotic, and sedative. Examples of tranquilizer that can cause addiction if not used properly are Librium, Miltown and valium. A sedative on the other hand seldom causes any addition because it is only used for patients undergoing surgery, convulsions and epileptic control.

Addiction to Drugs like these cannot be seen or notice right away on a person until it is way too late, which is why numerous people got addicted. Not to forget the fact that these drugs are readily available with only a prescriptions to stand in the way.
